INTEGRATED CHILDREN’S HUB
SKA RATING ASSESSMENT
To SKA assess and advise Croydon Council on the implementation of SKA delivery for their new office building. Croydon Council were aiming to achieve a Silver SKA rating. The office space is to be for multi-purpose use for the provision of children’s services to the young people of Croydon.
This project, which completed in 2011, was the first public interior project to be assessed using SKA rating.
We were able to support the project team through understanding the current design approach and helping them meet the necessary target measures to enable the achievement of a Silver SKA rating.
We reviewed the project under the following categories: Energy & CO2, Water, Waste, Transport, Pollution and Materials. Most of the materials were selected according to environmentally friendly specifications. We were also able to help Croydon Council connect all the interior services to a BMS (Building Management System) which monitors the building’s efficiency and regulates energy and water consumption.
From the scope, 42 Good Practise Measures were achieved such as over 58% of the Wellbeing measures, 91% of waste was diverted from landfill and all timber used was FSC certified.
