Brief
This is our first case study series on our WFH Space Consultation service, which was a response to the pandemic’s effect of an increase in WFH and hybrid workplace approaches. One of the first to adopt this service was Liz Male for her great team at PR firm Liz Male Consulting.
The below case study is created to help showcase how we helped Dan transform his work-from-home environment; ultimately improving his wellbeing, making him feel “more productive and less stressed.”
Dan is working from home in his spare bedroom. Recommendations for his space included:
- Switch to a diffused circular shade for the ceiling light. Add an uplight floor lamp near to the desk to create a sense of vertical space to support you in communication and creativity. If possible, use a smart bulb with settings for the best light to concentrate and create.
- For creativity and conceptual thinking then consider using lighting upwards to create a sense of space, as well as hanging artwork above the desk or painting the wall in a vertical block upward from your desk location to draw the eye up.
- Consider changing the bed to a sofa bed or day bed which will create a better sense of space for you, this will encourage better communication and creativity. When deciding on the layout of the room consider the daylight, refuge, and prospect principles and feel free to experiment relocating the desk regularly until it feels like you can perform best at your tasks. Placing the desk further from the door will slightly reduce the noise distraction from other rooms.
